Area code 659 is a telephone area code in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) for the Caribbean island of Montserrat. It was assigned to Montserrat in 2011 as an overlay area code to provide additional numbering capacity. Area code 664 is the original area code for Montserrat, but as the demand for telephone numbers increased, area code 659 was introduced to accommodate the growing population and telecommunications needs on the island. Callers dialing a number within Montserrat must use the appropriate area code (either 664 or 659) followed by the seven-digit local phone number.
